Tropical Lab

Selected student and exhibitor of the 7th Tropical Lab, workshop and Art Exhibition. Theme: “Echo: The Poetics of Translation” at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore.

I witnessed, and it is a curious fact that some tourists steal traditional wooden shingles from house facades in Switzerland as souvenirs. This image completely triggered my attention.

My interactive artwork was an invitation to exchange (or steal) a piece of our two craft traditions – the Asian Batik fabrics and the Swiss wooden shingles tradition.
By translating how these native handcrafts vanish, I aim to trigger people thoughts on the role of tradition in the contemporary globalized world.
